Patient and Visitor Code of Conduct

To provide the right medical care for you, we require a commitment by caregivers, patients, and visitors. Mutual trust and respect will guide your care team, which includes you, in developing and providing the best treatment plan for you. Our goal is to promote healing for you in a safe and respectful environment.

To do this, we have outlined a Code of Conduct for patients and visitors. The code was developed to help make your hospital stay, hospital visit, or outpatient appointment a positive experience.

Rules and Guidelines

  • Patients, visitors, and caregivers will address each other in a respectful manner.
  • Patients are encouraged to speak with their providers about their care plan.
  • Patients, visitors, and caregivers will refrain from exhibiting physically threatening or abusive behavior toward others. Kicking, slapping, hitting, spitting, and biting will not be allowed. We have zero tolerance for threatening or abusive behavior.
  • Patients, visitors, and caregivers will refrain from exhibiting verbally threatening or abusive behavior toward others. Racial or cultural slurs or other derogatory remarks, including, but not limited to, slurs or remarks targeting another’s age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, disability, language, sexuality or sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, marital status, or ancestry will not be allowed. Again, we have zero tolerance for threatening or abusive behavior.
  • Weapons and firearms are forbidden in all areas at Good Samaritan locations.
  • The following expectations are also required of hospitalized patients:
    • Patients will remain on the unit for their safety, and to facilitate timely care.
    • Leaving the unit, if not part of your care plan, may be considered leaving against medical advice.

A safe and respectful environment is key to promoting healing and trusting relationships. Violations of the Patient and Visitor Code of Conduct may result in:

  • Patients: If you choose to not comply with the above expectations, appropriate authorities, which may include law enforcement, will be notified and a formal complaint may be filed. Violations will lead to a review of your care plan with potential discontinuation of all non-emergent services provided at all Good Samaritan locations.
  • Visitors: If you fail to comply with the above expectations, you may be asked to leave, and may be restricted from future visitation privileges. If you continue to not comply with expectations, appropriate authorities, which may include law enforcement, will be notified and a formal complaint may be filed.
