Student Nurse Extern Program

Learn More About the Good Samaritan Student Nurse Extern Program

The Student Nurse Extern (SNE) Program at Good Samaritan provides nursing students with supervised clinical experiences to build confidence, enhance skills, and transition smoothly into professional practice. As a Magnet-designated hospital, we offer a supportive environment where you can gain valuable hands-on experience alongside experienced nursing staff.

Our three-tiered program (SNE 1, SNE 2, and SNE 3) allows you to advance your skills as you progress through nursing school:

  • SNE 1: Focuses on Patient Care Technician (PCT) skills, available upon acceptance into an accredited LPN or RN program.

  • SNE 2: A mix of PCT and Student Nurse Extern (SNE) responsibilities, requiring completion of nursing skills coursework from an accredited LPN or RN Program.

  • SNE 3: Primarily an SNE role, available to students in the final year of an RN program, with opportunities for PCT hours as needed.

Program Highlights:

  • Gain real-world nursing experience.
  • Work alongside a dedicated Nurse Preceptor.
  • Enhance your patient care, nursing skills, and confidence.
  • Flexible 4-hour, 8-hour, or 12-hour shifts with a minimum of 48 hours per quarter.
  • No weekend or holiday requirements.
  • Differential pay and unit-based assignments available.
