Good Samaritan Offering Men’s Wellness Fair

Good Samaritan Offering Men’s Wellness Fair

It’s that time of year again for men in the community to get a check-up on their health at the Good Samaritan Men’s Wellness Fair. The Men’s Wellness Fair will be held October 8 at Highland Woods Community Center, located at 1377 S. Hart Street in Vincennes from 7 to 10 a.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. (EST). Pre-registration will be required for the event.

The free screenings offered will include blood pressure, colorectal take-home kits, pulse oximetry, and a lab draw that will test blood sugar, lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides), glomerular filtration rate (kidney function), and PSA for prostate cancer. The blood draw is offered free to participants and is made possible in part by support from the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

Several hospital departments will also be on hand to share information about their services. New this year, limited appointments will be available for a free hernia, gallbladder and suspicious lump screening. These screenings will require a separate appointment time within the registration. Good Samaritan's newest general surgeon, Dr. Mohammed Ismael, will be conducting the screenings in the Good Samaritan Mobile Wellness Unit outside of Highland Woods Community Center. Those interested in this screening are encouraged to arrive at the time of their hernia/gallbladder/lump screening to have that completed first before attending the other Men's Wellness Fair screenings inside the community building.

“Our Men’s Wellness Fair is our most popular free screening event,” stated Rob McLin, Good Samaritan President & CEO. “Many of the men who attend are reluctant to seek out regular medical care, so this wellness fair gives them another option to get the screenings they need in a casual atmosphere. Evidence has repeatedly shown that early detection and prevention are two important components of good health.”

Attendees must pre-register for the Men’s Wellness Fair online at gshvin.org/menshealthfair or by calling 812-885-3336 by September 27. Fasting for 10-12 hours before the lab draw is recommended, but not required.
