Good Samaritan is pleased to announce the grand opening of its new Specialty Pharmacy, serving residents in southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. A ribbon-cutting ceremony, in collaboration with the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, will mark the official inauguration of this vital health care resource. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 17, at 305 S. 5th Street, Vincennes, with an open house following from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Specialty pharmacies play a crucial role in health care by providing medications that may be costly and have limited distribution or require specialized monitoring or patient education. Until now, patients in our area may have been compelled to obtain their specialty medications from distant pharmacies, causing inconvenience and delays. The Good Samaritan Specialty Pharmacy aims to address this gap by offering a local solution staffed by pharmacists and technicians from the community.
Shane Wilson, R.Ph., Director of Pharmacy at Good Samaritan, expressed enthusiasm for the new endeavor. "We saw an unmet need in the area for specialty pharmacy services,” he stated. “For patients who are required by their insurance to use a specialty pharmacy for their infusion medication, our new pharmacy will greatly decrease the red tape and frustration associated with obtaining their medication."
The pharmacy's location and local staff ensure that patients can access their specialty medications conveniently. Most patients will have the option of having their medications delivered, but those who prefer can pick them up in person. Importantly, utilizing the Good Samaritan Specialty Pharmacy keeps insurance payments and co-pay dollars within the community, contributing to local economic health.
Good Samaritan has partnered with Omnicell, a leading provider of pharmacy automation and analytics solutions, to enhance the quality and efficiency of its specialty pharmacy services. "We decided to engage Omnicell as a partner because of their experience and expertise in specialty pharmacy,” elaborated Wilson. “Also, Omnicell’s size and national presence allow them to aggressively negotiate pricing with insurance providers."
The Good Samaritan Specialty Pharmacy emphasizes patient-centric care, offering personalized counseling and support to optimize treatment outcomes. From medication education to assistance with scheduling, the pharmacy's expert team is dedicated to ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care.
